In today's US Weekly online, there is an item from Rosie O'Donnell saying that her 50 pound weight loss caused a lot of "emotional turbulence" in her life. Though extremely happy she is living healthier, Rosie spoke of the unbalance that is created when you lose an extreme amount of weight. Sounds strange, but it is entirely true.
States Rosie, "The fact that I look so different has been difficult and unexpected," she told ABC News on the set of The View. "Everyone assumes that obese people would just be jumping for joy that they were healthier and thinner and able to fit into store-bought sizes, we don't have to go to the plus store. But it's also filled with a lot of emotional turbulence you wouldn't expect."
Losing weight and living healthier are amazing, but many people don't anticipate the other side of extreme weight loss. Especially with bariatric surgery, weight loss occurs quite rapidly and your body image does not match up with your new physical body. In addition, people around you may start treating you differently and many people actually complain that they are uncomfortable with attention and adulation from people.
This is why SUPPORT and COMMUNITY are so important. Rosie goes on to say that she goes to a weight loss support group where women get together to speak about how feel.
